Be a part of Chingay 2006

Hi all,

Chingay 2006 is around the corner! The Japanese Association, Singapore will be taking part in Chingay 2006 and they have invited us to join them in this annual event.

Every year, JAS performs the bon-dance, a traditional Japanese folk dance as their performance at the parade.

We’re a bit late in the announcements this year and we apologize for that, but here are the details for the interested.

Practice sessions will be held on the following dates:

  • Mondays from 3.30pm to 4.30pm - 19 December 2005, 9 January 2006, 16
    January 2006 and 23 January 2006
  • Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm
  • Saturday, 7 January 2006 from 1pm to 3pm

These practice sessions are not compulsary, but you get to learn the dance moves and interact with both other Japanese and Japanese culture enthusiasts there.

There will be parade rehearsals on the following Saturdays, which are compulsary if you would be participating in the parade:

  • 14 January 2006 from 2pm to 5pm
  • 21 January 2006 at night

And the big event itself, the actual Chingay 2006 parade, would be held on 3 February and 4 February at night!

This event requires a high level of commitment, but if you’re free and take an interest in traditional Japanese culture, do take this chance to join in the festivities as chances like these come only once a year! SEAL points will also be awarded for participation.

If you’re interested or have any questions, please email japaneseculturalgroup@yahoo.com.sg.

We’ll require your full name (as in matric card), matric number, your school, and your year of study if you’re participating, so do include them in.

On behalf of Temasek Polytechnic Japanese Cultural Group, have a great 2006!
