Chingay 2007

Hi all,

It’s almost the new year, and Chingay 2007 is around the corner! The Japanese Association, Singapore will be taking part in Chingay once again and they have invited us to join them in this annual event.

Every year, JAS performs the bon-dance, a traditional Japanese folk dance as their performance at the parade.

Practice sessions will be held weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm. These practice sessions are not compulsary, but you get to learn the dance moves and interact with other Japanese folks and Japanese culture enthusiasts there.

However, there will be parade rehearsals on the following Saturdays, which are compulsary if you would be participating in the parade:

27 January 2007 from 2pm to 4pm
10 February 2007 from 2pm to night

The big event itself, the Chingay 2007 parade itself, would be held on 23 February and 24 February at night!

This event requires a high level of commitment, but if you’re free and take an interest in traditional Japanese culture, do take this chance to join in the festivities as chances like these come only once a year! SEAL points will be awarded for participation.

If you’re interested or have any questions, please email comm@tpjcg.org by Wednesday, 20 December 2006. We’ll require your full name (as in matric card), matric number, your school, and your year of study if you’re participating, so do include them in.
