Drawing Sessions (February)

Hi all,

As always our drawing sessions are on every week! Anyone who is interested in drawing in the style of Japanese animation is welcome. This is a relaxed get-together for artists of any level, meant to give interested parties an opportunity to come together, draw, share tips, make friends and basically have fun.

Day: Mondays (5th, 12th, 26th February 2007)
Time: 6pm to 7pm
Venue: 5-6-12 (Applied Science) (Should there be a change in location, signs will be put up to redirect you.)

Please take note that 19th February is Chinese New Year, so there would be no drawing session on that day.

Admission to drawing sessions is free for all members of JCG (please remember to bring your membership card). Non-members will have to pay 50 cents.

Screening: Arashi no Yori Ni

Hi everyone!

We’ll be screening Arashi no Yoru Ni (あらしのよるに in Japanese; On a Stormy Night in English) on 3rd February. An animated movie based on Yūichi Kimura’s series of light novels, Arashi no Yoru Ni is about the friendship between a goat and a wolf. Despite being naturally prey and predator, fate brings them together one stormy night and they develop a friendship. They both face disapproval when their respective groups find out about this. However, instead of betraying each other, the pair set out together to find an “emerald forest”, where they would be free from persecution for their friendship.

Date: 3rd February 2007 (Saturday)
Time: 1pm
Venue: LT15, School of Information Technology/Applied Science
Admission: Exclusively for members only (Please bring along your membership card!)

Chingay 2007

Hi all,

It’s almost the new year, and Chingay 2007 is around the corner! The Japanese Association, Singapore will be taking part in Chingay once again and they have invited us to join them in this annual event.

Every year, JAS performs the bon-dance, a traditional Japanese folk dance as their performance at the parade.

Practice sessions will be held weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm. These practice sessions are not compulsary, but you get to learn the dance moves and interact with other Japanese folks and Japanese culture enthusiasts there.

However, there will be parade rehearsals on the following Saturdays, which are compulsary if you would be participating in the parade:

27 January 2007 from 2pm to 4pm
10 February 2007 from 2pm to night

The big event itself, the Chingay 2007 parade itself, would be held on 23 February and 24 February at night!

This event requires a high level of commitment, but if you’re free and take an interest in traditional Japanese culture, do take this chance to join in the festivities as chances like these come only once a year! SEAL points will be awarded for participation.

If you’re interested or have any questions, please email comm@tpjcg.org by Wednesday, 20 December 2006. We’ll require your full name (as in matric card), matric number, your school, and your year of study if you’re participating, so do include them in.
