Wagashi Day

Akemashite omedeto gozaimasu everyone!

Have you ever seen or tasted traditional Japanese deserts or sweets found on television programmes and in shops? Curious to find out how to make these traditional Japanese deserts and sweets that were passed down from generations to generations in Japan?

The wait is over! In the month of January we are organising our yearly event, the “Wagashi Day”, which will bring you the latest cooking techniques to ensure the success of preparing the esteem dishes of both the “Ichigo Daifuku” and “Hanami Dango”.

The word “Wagashi” refers to sweets in Japanese which consist of traditional Japanese sweets and deserts ranging from those fluffy white soft Mocchi containing sweet strawberries to those irresistible colourful round chewy dangos that would slowly melt on your taste buds. After participating in our cooking class “Wagashi Day”, these elusive dishes would finally be added to your collection of Traditional Japanese dish recipes.

Impress your friends by gaining the cooking knowledge of these two exclusive dishes with the guidance of our cheerful, helpful and knowledgeable organisers.

Chingay Parade 2010!

Hi all

It’s almost the new year, and Chingay 2010 is around the corner! Every year, the Japanese Association, Singapore (JAS) performs the bon-dance, a traditional Japanese folk dance and have invited us to join them in this annual event.

Practice sessions will be held on the following dates:

From: 9 January 2010 to 11 February 2010
Every Thursday from 2pm to 4pm at JAS Studio 1
Every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm at JAS Ballroom

Parade rehearsals will be held on the following dates:

Full Dress Rehearsal: 6 February 2010 from 2pm to late
Rehearsal: 18 February 2010 from 3pm to late
Parade Pre-view: 19 February 2010 from 3pm to late
Parade: 20 February 2010 from 2pm to late

All dates are compulsory to take part in the Parade. This requires a lot of commitment, but if you’re free and take an interest in traditional Japanese culture, do take this oppurtunity to join in the festivities as chances like these come only once a year! SEAL points will be awarded for participation.

If you’re interested or have anu enquiries, email us at comm@tpjcg.org with your full name, matric number, school, year of study, contact number, gender, age, nationality, height and T-Shirt size (XS-XXL) by Wednesday, 9 December 2009.
