About Us

History and Mission
Temasek Polytechnic Japanese Cultural Group (TPJCG) is dedicated to the appreciation of Japanese culture.

TPJCG was established on 15 May 2001 under Temasek Polytechnic’s Interdisciplinary and General Studies Department (now known as the Humanities and Social Science School). It started as a small club, begun by members of Japanese classes in TP. TPJCG is now an independent club in Temasek Polytechnic.

Our mission as a club is committed to the education of the student body in the various aspects of both traditional and modern Japanese culture.

Committee Structure
TPJCG is run by our committee members. Our main committee consists of the President, Vice President, Honourary Treasurer, Honourary Secretary, Quartermaster, sub-committee leaders and project team leaders. We have three sub-committees:

  • Anime/Manga (AM) sub-committee
  • Arts and Entertainment (A&E) sub-committee
  • Cuisine sub-committee

Anime/Manga Sub-committee
The anime/manga sub-committee is tasked with organizing anime and manga related events. Events include anime screenings, manga drawing classes and other appreciation events. Anime/Manga also handles gaming and cosplay, to a certain extent.

Arts and Entertainment Sub-committee
The arts and entertainment sub-committee is tasked with organizing events pertaining to Japanese pop entertainment and traditional arts. Events include papercraft sessions, movie screenings and music appreciation sessions.

Cuisine Sub-committee
The cuisine sub-committee is tasked with organizing events aimed at appreciating the finer aspects of Japanese cuisine. Events include the very popular sushi-making sessions and regular restaurant outings.
