Ichibantei Restaurant Outing

Hi all!

We’re having an outing for all members to get together and enjoy special, unique or just delicious Japanese cuisine. Members can also make new friends and catch up with one another.

This month, we’re having ramen – soupy noodles with toppings such as sliced pork (chashu), bamboo shoots and spring onions. Ichibantei is a chain of ramen restaurants in Japan that has expanded into Singapore for quite some time already, bringing with them authentic ramen that is wildly popular with Japanese expats.

For those of you who don’t like ramen, Ichibantei offers other types of Japanese cuisine too, including sushi and a glorious hamburger steak!

Date: Sunday, 24 July 2011
Time: 6pm to late
Venue: Ichibantei Robertson Quay (meeting at Clarke Quay MRT control station)
Budget: $20 maximum (for most main courses)

If you’re interested, please email comm@tpjcg.org (subject: Ichibantei Restaurant Outing) with your name, matric number and contact number by Friday, 22 July 2011. As restaurant outings are for members to make new friends, do ask your friends along, but we request that they sign up for the event themselves.

(Restaurant outings are also open to past members who’ve graduated from Temasek Polytechnic. Welcome back!)

See you there!

Japanese Korokke making workshop

Mashed potato? Shrimp? Breadcrumbs!

Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu!

That’s right! As a start to this new year, we journey to France and the seas to explore the origin of some well-known Japanese dishes! For the dashing month of January 2011, we proudly present to you the popular Japanese croquette, Korokke, and Panko Shrimp!

Panko Shrimp consists of shrimps coated in panko and deep-fried into a delicious snack. “Panko” translates to Japanese breadcrumbs, which is lighter, crunchier and more flaky than its Western identity, and Shrimps are basically crustaceans found swimming in fresh and salt waters.

Korokke commonly comes in the form of patties, served with a variety of sauces, mayonnaise, or shredded veggie. Consisting of mashed potato with variable fillings and coated with panko, this deep-fried delight is vastly available in supermarkets, convenience stores and especially korokke shops. Korokke may be eaten by itself as a snack, a topping accompanying other dishes, or even made into a sandwich (“korokke pan”)!

Don’t miss this opportunity, join TPJCG for our Korokke and Panko Shrimp making session! Let us teach and guide you along the way to making these wonderful and well-known dishes.
